Caregivers

CIC has launched two new pathways for caregivers presently residing in Canada to apply for permanent residency.

 

Note: The Live-in Caregiver Program is closed to new applicants. New applicants can submit applications under the following categories:

  • Caring for children class
  • Caring for people with high medical needs class

 

The live-in part of the program is not mandatory any more. Caregivers now have the choice to live-n with the employers or live elsewhere.

 

Caregivers Pathway to Permanent Residency

 

Caring for children class:

In order to qualify for Canadian Immigration under this program, individuals must:

  • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec
  • Have at least 24 months (in last 48 months) of full-time work experience (at least 30 hours per week) in Canada as a home childcare provider, with a valid work permit;
  • Match the job description of a home childcare provider as defined by the National Occupation Classification 4411;
  • Finished a one-year Canadian post-secondary credential or equivalent foreign credential; and
  • Achieve a minimum threshold of Canadian language benchmark (CLB 5) for either English or French.

 

Breaks in work-experience is acceptable and work experience as a student does not count. A maximum of 2,750 applicants will be accepted in this category.

 

Caring for people with high medical needs class:

In order to qualify for Canadian Immigration under this program, individuals must:

  • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec
  • Have at least 24 months (in last 48 months) of full-time work experience (at least 30 hours per week) in Canada as a registered nurse, registered psychiatric nurse, licensed practical nurse, nurse aide, orderly, patient service associate, home support worker, or other similar occupation, with a valid work permit;

Show a license to practice in the profession in Canada (if applicable);

  • Finished a one-year Canadian post-secondary credential, or equivalent foreign credential; and
  • Achieve a minimum threshold of Canadian language benchmark for either English or French.
    • Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses should score CLB 7
    • Other qualified occupations should score CLB 5

 

A maximum of 2,750 applicants will be accepted in this category.
